Puli Upma/ Pacha Maavu Podi Upma


Puli Upma is a traditional vegetarian recipe from South India. Hannah Sri describes this recipe equally perfect on rainy days amongst with filter coffee. This was her mom’s recipe. This upma has tangy sense of savor because of the tamarind added.


§  Rice flour – two cups
§  Tamarind H2O – two cups
§  Sesame stone oil – five tbsp or the commons stone oil
§  Mustard seeds – 1/4 tsp
§  Asafoetida pulverization – a pinch
§  Curry leaves – few
§  Red chillies – two or vuruga milagai
§  Channa dhall – 1/2 tsp
§  Turmeric pulverization – 1/2 tsp
§  Salt to taste


v First accept the rice flour, add together common salt as well as turmeric pulverization to it. 
v Add  tamarind H2O  and instruct inwards a polish paste. 

v  Heat oil, add together mustard seeds, when it splutters add together urad dhal, ruby chillies, curry leaves as well as asafoetida pulverization as well as shaver it till golden brown. 

v  Now add together the rice flour glue as well as stir it continuously till the flour fully cooks.
